Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter meeting

Thursday, August 29, 2002, Pacific Palms

The Los Angeles/Orange County chapter of the Harvey Mudd College Entrepreneurial Network held a meeting at the Pacific Palms Conference Center in the City of Industry on August 29th. This was the first HMCEN event for many of the attendees. The meeting provided ample time for members to see old friends, chat, catch up on old news, and, as always, talk about common business issues.

Dan Moran ('99), CEO of Horizon, gave a spirited talk about his company’s business history, their new commercial product, Dex, and queried the crowd about solutions to some emerging marketing problems faced by Horizon. One of the purposes of regional meetings is to allow younger, less experienced entrepreneurs to solicit advice from their more seasoned mentors, and Dan heard a lot of sympathetic and possibly helpful advice.

After the presentations and discussion, the group enjoyed pasta, salads, and cocktails. Some members even ventured out on to the third story patio to catch a glimpse of the famous Eisenhower golf course (the “Ike” course), reputedly the hardest course in California from the back tees. This prompted the suggestion from a number of members that if the next regional meeting is held at Pacific Palms that we should allow an additional half hour for driving golf balls at the range.

Noted.

Throughout 2002, the HMC Entrepreneurial Network will be holding regional meetings in San Diego, the Bay Area, and in Orange County/LA. Check back for times and locations!
