San Diego Chapter meeting

Friday, November 8, 2002, Home of Martha and Ed Dennis

Members of the San Diego Chapter of the Harvey Mudd College Entrepreneurial Network enjoyed a warm, wonderful evening at the home of Martha and Ed Dennis on November 8th, 2002. Gracious hosts, a blazing fire, international cuisine and spirited conversation welcomed those brave enough to venture out in the pouring rain and snarled traffic.

Nicholas Seet ’99, our featured entrepreneur, described the founding of SIVI, a Los Angeles based Internet incubator and Auditude (http://www.auditude.com/), one of the spin-offs of SIVI. Focusing on Auditude, Nicholas described it as a music and media recognition software and services company for the broadcast hardware and software industries. The foundation for his product involved the creation of a 1.5 million-song database while he was a student at HMC. Auditude’s technology is a frequency based analog waveform analysis system that normalizes signals and extracts characteristics to create unique identifiers. Nicholas also talked about the two HMC clinic projects Auditude has sponsored and the unexpected results.

One of the purposes of regional meetings is to allow less experienced entrepreneurs the opportunity to solicit advice from our more seasoned members. Nicholas took advantage of this occasion to present a current business challenge and the audience jumped in with plenty of suggestions.

After the formal presentation, discussions about Auditude and other businesses continued over dessert and coffee. The HMCEN sincerely thanks Martha and Ed for their kind hospitality. The guests all had a wonderful and very productive evening.
