San Diego Chapter meeting
Thursday, December 4, 2003, Wydham Hotel
The San Diego chapter of the Harvey Mudd College Entrepreneurial Network held a regional meeting at the Wyndham Hotel in Northern San Diego on Thursday, December 4th. Participants at the meeting confirmed that the San Diego area is reviving as a hot-bed of entrepreneurial activity involving Mudders. After sharing some light snacks, spirits served in moderation, and heavy conversation, members settled down to hear a brief presentation by Tom Johnson '03 about a new product, Chainlink Software offered by his young company, Unified Consulting (who maintain this web site, by the way). See http://www.unifiedconsulting.com
Tom's talk was followed by the main event of the evening, a presentation by Tom Lillig ‘96, founder and CEO of OnScreen, Incorporated ( http://www.onscreen-inc.com ), a company that is in the final stages of designing a technology that allows near-zero latency video conferencing on the internet. Tom began by explaining to the engineers in the crowd (lots of them) the primary technical obstacle to sending real-time images over the internet. After spotting a suitable number of heads on the audience nodding in agreement, Tom went on the explain how OnScreen is solving this problem. Tom's company is starting to get a lot of attention, and most members of the San Diego HMCEN now probably understand why.
Tom's talk was followed by a nice pasta dinner which was enjoyed by all. Many participants stayed to chat for more than an hour past the meeting end and were finally thrown out of the room by hotel staff.
Maybe next time they meet, the San Diego group ought to plan an all-nighter, just like they used to do at Mudd.
