LA / OC Chapter Meeting
Thursday, September 29, 2005, Ayres Hotel
The LAOC chapter of the HMCEN held a regional meeting on the outdoor patio of the Ayres Hotel in Seal Beach. Every constituency of the Mudd community – trustees, alumni, students, faculty and staff were represented in the 42 guests.
The meeting began with the usual milling about, sampling spirits and trying the tasty snacks while old friends got together and new friends were made.
Once the meeting was brought to order the audience heard a lively and informative presentation from Mudd alumnus Chris Seib '00, CTO and cofounder of InstaMed Communcations, a medical transactions systems software startup. Chris explained some of the difficult strategic decisions that a company must make when it faces a funding round. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion about the proper scale of funding, valuation, and similar issues faced by many entrepreneurs.
The group was then treated to a nice entree of grilled pizza, which actually tasted better than one might guess from the description. That was followed by more mixing, arguing, and discussing until the hotel finally made everyone leave.
Apologies to the crowd for the freeway noise. Next time we will bring a megaphone.
